SEATTLE -- Something about Safeco Field is bringing out the best in Kyle Seager. While most hitters find Seattles park frustrating, the Mariners third baseman is thriving at home this season. Seager had an RBI double in the first inning and hit a three-run homer in the fifth off Boston starter Jake Peavy as the Mariners won their fifth straight, 8-2 over the Red Sox on Tuesday night. Seattle matched its longest winning streak of the season thanks to another offensive outburst making up for a shaky performance from starter Erasmo Ramirez. One night after putting up 12 runs on the Red Sox, Seattle hit two homers and handed Boston its fifth loss in six games. And Seager continued a hitting tear at home. Through 37 games at Safeco Field, Seager is hitting .328 with 10 of his 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. Seagers run at home has helped make up for his miserable first three weeks of the season. "Its one of those things where you get feeling good, you go through your little runs and they have been at home for me," Seager said. Mike Zunino followed Seager with a solo shot as part of Seattles four-run fifth inning. It was Zuninos 10th home run. The victory was Seattles 15th in June and secured consecutive winning months for the first time since 2012. The Mariners (42-36) are six games over .500 for the first time this season. "There is a really good feeling in the clubhouse," Seager said. "We know what we have in here. We feel good about it and we feel like well be able to sustain it." Seattle has mostly been winning with pitching but the bats have shown up against the Red Sox. Logan Morrison had the big blows in the series opener with two home runs. Seagers double in the first scored Endy Chavez and Morrison followed with a sacrifice fly for an early 2-0 lead. Chavez tripled for the second straight night in the second inning to score Brad Miller for a 3-0 lead. It was Seagers turn again in the fifth. Robinson Canos single with one out put runners on the corners and Seager turned on an inside pitch from Peavy just inside the right-field foul pole and off the windows of the cafe in the outfield. Seager was barely back in the dugout when Zunino lined his homer into the Mariners bullpen, nearly hitting reliever Danny Farquhar for a 7-2 lead. "Were not trying to go out there and do too much. ... Its just a trust and a confidence that I think is growing and hopefully can stay that way," Zunino said. Joe Beimel (2-1) got four outs in relief of Ramirez to get the victory. Ramirez again failed to get deep into the game and was done after 4 1-3 innings. Control was again the problem for Ramirez. He ran his scoreless innings streak to 19 1-3 before giving up a two-run homer to Brock Holt in the fourth inning. But it was five walks and a number of long at-bats that ended his night early. While not giving up many runs, Ramirez pitched more than five innings only once in his past five starts. Peavy (1-6) has allowed 16 homers in 16 starts this season. He was pulled after the fifth and the seven earned runs were a season high. Peavey has lost six straight decisions, his only win this season coming on April 25 against Toronto. In the 11 starts since his victory, Peavy has left the mound with the lead only once. "Its not fun. There is nothing fun about getting beat especially when you dont do your job," Peavy said. "Its frustrating and there is no other way to say it." NOTES: Beimel was the first of four relievers used by Seattle. ... Boston RHP Clay Buchholz (knee) will come off the 15-day DL to start Wednesdays series finale. Buchholz last pitched for the Red Sox in late May. ... DENVER -- The San Diego Padres restored their offensive pop with the help of a little pregame pep talk. Meeting as an offensive unit, the Padres hatched a simple plan of attack: If theyre going to mess up at the plate, at least mess up being aggressive. The new approach worked wonders as the Padres pounded out a season-high 14 hits to snap a four-game skid with a 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. Chase Headley tied a team record with three doubles, and Nick Hundley drove in three runs. Up and down the lineup, the Padres were knocking the ball all over the yard, smacking seven doubles. All this from the worst-hitting team in the NL -- at least for now. "We just talked a little bit about relaxing and understanding that you play a 162-game season," Headley said. "While it looks really, really ugly right at the moment, theres a long ways to go. "But it was nice to have some breathing room." Cory Luebke (1-1) provided that, throwing seven efficient innings as he breezed through the Rockies lineup on a brisk night. He allowed just six hits and one run. "Offence did a good job setting the tone early," Luebke said. "They just went out and took a little pressure off." Jeremy Guthrie (1-1) was feeling under the weather, but gave it a go despite a sore throat. With the bullpen taxed from so much recent work, Guthrie really had no choice but to hang in there as long as possible. The righty allowed six runs and nine hits before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh. "That was one of the focuses -- getting deep and trying to compete and giving the team a chance to win," Guthrie explained. "I wasnt able to do that, but I was able to get deep. Thats important at this point." Gold Glove shortstop Troy Tulowitzki remains in a fielding funk for the Rockies as he committed his fourth error of the season on a hard grounder by Luebke, which led to a run. He had only six miscues all of last season. Not that manager Jim Tracy seemed all that concerned about his typically reliable infielder. "Its just one of those things in the early part of the season that you have to let the ebb and flow take place and let him get into a groove," Tracy said. "Tulos one of the guys whos searching to find some things and you have to allow that situation to happen.dddddddddddd Thats all." Colorado scored in the second when Tyler Colvin singled in Michael Cuddyer. That would be all the damage Luebke allowed. The lefty was even permitted to work his way out of a jam in his last inning. With two on and two out, Luebke got pinch-hitter Jason Giambi to ground out to end the threat. "Those types of at bats are stepping stones for young pitchers," manager Bud Black said. "It was a great hitter against a good young pitcher. He won the battle." Headley had a solid game against the team he grew up idolizing. Hes from nearby Fountain, Colo., and always seems to hit well at Coors Field. Then again, he hits well at all stops on the road -- hitting .304 away from home. "To be honest with you, Ive been feeling pretty good for the last three or four days," Headley said. "I finally got a few pitches to hit today and was able to square them up." Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez missed a third straight game with strep throat. He said his strength is steadily returning, maybe even enough to play on Tuesday night. "I dont feel 100 per cent yet, but getting better each day," he said before the game. With their bullpen stretched thin, the Rockies needed Guthrie to go deep into the game. The relievers have already thrown 36 innings this season. Guthrie took one for the team, throwing 103 pitches. Just in case, Tracy held off on starter Jhoulys Chacins bullpen session Monday, preferring to wait to see if he might be needed in an emergency. The Rockies have a day off later in the week, so they could afford to push Chacins throwing session back. Before the game, San Diego activated utility player Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list. The 36-year-old signed with the Padres last November, but missed the opening 10 games of the season due to a strained right calf muscle. NOTES: To make room on the roster for Kotsay, the Padres optioned RHP Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson on Monday. ... Rockies LHP Jorge De La Rosa tossed 60 pitches a four-inning simulated game on Monday. Hes still mending from elbow surgery that sidelined him last season. ... The Rockies broke ground over the weekend on a baseball academy in the Dominican Republic. The academy will cost around $6 million. ' ' '
